Kodak promotional lighter

Postby coley1971 » Mon Dec 29, 2014 5:36 pm

I found this lighter while cleaning out closets. I believe it belonged to my father-in-law, who had given us many different types of lighters. I was unable to locate anything like this online, and was wondering if anyone else would know more about it. I did find it curious the words on the back of the lighter are in French (?)

Thanks....

The Scripto VU-Lighter was used as a common advertising vehicle in the 1950s to 1960s. Your lighter was made between 1963 and 1966 most probably for the French branch of Kodak.

An interesting aside;
Rite-Point, the pen company in St. Louis Missouri, started making view type lighters
and ended up selling the idea to Scripto, another pen company. With these Scripto
Vu-Lighters, condition and advertising set the price. Generally, the ones with fishing
flies have a great market but Coke and some other easily recognizable brands have
voracious collectors.

I really like the idea of the Vu-Lighter, always knowing what your fuel level is.

What are your plans? Gonna use it? Shelve it? Try to sell?

Do you know how it works?
